Advent summons us to reflect once again on the mystery of Emmanuel, God-with-us. Who can fully fathom why God would take on human flesh and share our human condition? Our ancestors in the faith waited and longed for the day when the Messiah would come. Today, it’s easy to take it for granted.
Make some time this Advent season to revisit your Nativity scene. Lovingly hold each piece one at a time, and let it speak to you. Place yourself in Bethlehem, and listen to your heart as you travel with Mary and Joseph, or keep watch with the shepherds, or journey to the manger with the Magi. Sing with the angels. Shine like a star. Honor the longing in your own heart.
What is your favorite Advent tradition?
