Book Review by LaVonne Neff

by Vinita Hampton Wright on 07/02/2012

This week we celebrate July 4, Independence Day for the U.S.A. Because media tend to emphasize military themes on patriotic holidays, I’ve chosen a book review for today’s post that’s about the American military. The reviewer is LaVonne Neff, a friend of many years, an experienced editor, reader, and writer, who now keeps a blog of nothing but book reviews. I trust her to do a thorough read and provide thoughtful information.

So, this is a bit of a change for the DDF blog—a book review. But let me know if it’s useful for you. LaVonne reviews all sorts of books, many of them in categories of faith and religion. If you find this helpful, you might go to her blog yourself and peruse her plentiful archives. Also, let us know if you’d appreciate a book review from time to time—by guest bloggers or those of us here at Loyola Press. Of course, we want you to enjoy Loyola Press books; however, many books that fall outside our specialties are of interest to the Catholic community.

It is a plug. And that’s the only sentence I read. I thought this was a sharing blog for Christian experience? Are we running out of material?

Most book reviews give an opinion, and if the reviewer liked it and says so, I suppose that counts as a “plug.” On DDF we continue to explore ways of deepening our faith, and being informed counts, I think. We may or may not run more book reviews, depending on response. It certainly would not be a frequent post. No, we’re never out of material! I just enjoy allowing other bloggers to show up on the site occasionally. Blessed July 4–Vinita

Several of your books have been ordered over the years by me into our huge library system. Most of those are excellent teaching guides and they are now shared in our community.
