Blogger Melissa Ford asks thoughtful questions about how social media affect relationships and our approach to them. I’d love to know your thoughts on this topic.

My legs made me quit. The advent of a desk job requiring me to sit desk for two to five hours daily which in turn brought horrific distress to my legs always at an angle under the desk. The blood goes into the legs and then can’t get back up so the capillaries burst and stain the underside of the skin with haemoglobin (blood iron). It is not dangerous or serious in any way but it ain’t lovely either. A lifetime exerciser and weight lifter, I was not impressed with this insult to my good work.
A suggestion on Ignatian Spirituality during Lent last year said to try to give up Facebook for that season. I did and never went back. What a waste of time those media are. If people can’t phone or visit in person or at least e-mail (and I don’t mean those stupid “funny letters” either) then they don’t need to talk with me at all. End of story.
However I do comment regularly on our CTV News stories. So we all have to have an addiction somewhere, n’est-ce pas oui?
Your question — I kept my settings extremely high security. I do not trust the Internet. And here I am sitting again. Oops.
I unfriend people who get a bit outrageous because I don’t like that. They curse a lot and post disrespectful comments and pictures. I really go on facebook to play games…..to unwind. Don’t really want to read about what people do in their day. It’s not interesting to me that you are eating dinner, going to the mall, etc. People share tooooooooooooooooooooo much online.
If I have something to say to them, I’ll send a personal message.
I agree with Jules, I often friend someone while playing games and if I later go to my site and find vulgar words or pictures they are immediately gone. I don’t want to put my personal thoughts out there so I call or e-mail.
